On a local flight with Croatian Airlines, I was watching the customary advertisement, packaged with all glorifying things that all countries say about themselves like great food, great beaches, great people, great heritage…. Ending with the tagline “Croatia – Full of Life”.

Though I liked the advertisement, but it sounded too general and un-impressionable. 10 days later on my flight back from Croatia to Dubai, in my heart I actually felt “full of life”. In fact my reminiscence of this Croatia itinerary in the summer of 2016 felt like an “ideal life”. Generally in life we all aspire to create an eco-system where we can balance health, action, fun, elation and relation. Even when we strive hard, how many days we actually achieve such a balance? For me Croatia made it happen 10 out of 10 days.

Why did my Croatia itinerary felt like ideal life?

For someone like me with a workout average of 3-4 days a week, the nature workout opportunities in Croatia stimulated me to start each day with a mountain hike, walking a national park, rafting or kayaking a river or cycling through the gleaming fields. After a great workout the days felt like well-deserved leisure, with a warm massage of sun, cooled by the coast and shared with great people for whom humor, helping and sharing comes naturally.

I may sound like a Croatian campaigner, but I have to say that Croatia completely captivated me for its naïve nature, vivacious vintage-ness, cult coastline, palpable people, wonder workouts, fresh food & grand grills. Actually, much before my Croatian overwhelming, as we landed in Zagreb and drove to Plitvice Lakes, my first expression to my husband about the picturesque country was, “Wow, should we retire here?”

Croatia, a country that has surfed through waves of national identities and is a young tourist offering of just about 150 years, drenched my travel feet in full Croat spirit.

Here is my 10 days Croatia itinerary:

Day 1: Landed in Zagreb, drove to Village Jezerce (only 10 kms from Plitvice National Park), stayed at House Izvor. Read more about my stay at Village Jezerce.

Day 2: Explored Plitvice National Park and spent a relaxing evening in Houze Izvor in Village Jezerce

Day 3: Drove from Village Jezerce to Krka National Park. After exploring Krka, continued drive to Split, stayed at Le Meridian Lav, Split

Day 4-6: Explored Split, including visit to nearby islands like Brac and Hvar island, by ferry. (You can also choose to stay in one of the islands like Hvar and visit to explore Split from there. You can also ship your vehicle through these island ferries.) Read more about my explorations in Dalmatian Coast, from Split to Dubrovnik.

Day 7: Drove from Split to Dubrovnik (the Dalmatian coast). This is a must do! In Dubrovnik I stayed at Rixos Libertas.

Day 8-9: Explored Dubrovnik. Read more about my explorations in Dalmatian Coast, from Split to Dubrovnik.

Day 10: Flew from Dubrovnik to Zagreb, stayed the night and flew back home (Dubai) the next day

Dubrovnik, Croatia

After spending such a grandeur day we still had the charming Croatian evenings (thanks to the long summer days) to explore the city and enjoy the fresh food grills in any of Croatia’s vintage ambiances. To me, it did not feel like a travel experience, but how I would like my life to be.
